Verse of the Day
1 Corinthians 6:20 (NIV)
“You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
Devotional Reflection
Before we rush to do anything with this verse, we need to let it simply speak:
“You were bought at a price.”
Those words tell you something profound about who you are and whose you are. You are not forgotten, random, or cheaply held. You are dearly purchased.
Paul is reminding the believers in Corinth that their lives do not belong to themselves anymore. Not in a harsh way, but in a deeply loving way. God has paid for them with the blood of His Son, Jesus. That is the “price.”
When you buy something valuable, you care for it. You notice where you set it down. You protect it from damage. You don’t treat something precious the way you treat something disposable.
Think of a cherished heirloom ring or a fragile piece of china passed down from a grandmother. You wouldn’t toss it in a junk drawer or use it to dig in the garden. You instinctively handle it differently because of what it means and what it costs.
In a much deeper, holy way, God looks at you like that treasured possession. Not as a trinket, but as a beloved daughter, redeemed at the highest cost. You are not on the discount rack of life. You are not marked down because of age, mistakes, or scars. You are purchased by Christ.
That truth rests underneath the second part of the verse: “Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
We often separate “spiritual” life from “physical” life. We may think God mainly cares about our prayers, our beliefs, and our attitudes. But this verse is gently insisting that your body matters to Him as well.
Your body is the place where you live out your worship.
It is where you kneel to pray, where you open your Bible, where you hug a hurting friend, where you fix a meal, where you serve your family, where you rest when you are weary. Your body is not an embarrassment to God. It is the very space where His Spirit chooses to dwell and work.
For many women, the relationship with the body is complicated. You may have walked through pregnancies, miscarriages, surgeries, hormonal changes, chronic pain, disability, or the long, slow shifts of aging. You may carry regret over ways you have treated your body, or frustration over things your body now cannot do.
This verse does not shame you. It invites you.
Because you were bought with a price, your body is not a mistake or an afterthought. It is included in God’s redemption. Every wrinkle, every scar, every line of tiredness around your eyes exists in the light of a Savior who has claimed you as His own.
To “glorify God” in your body is not about chasing perfection or meeting some hidden spiritual standard. It is about offering yourself as you are, in this season, to the One who has already called you His.
Sometimes glorifying God in your body looks simple and small:
Taking a walk while talking with Him. Choosing to rest instead of pushing past exhaustion. Eating in a way that gently honors the body He has given you. Using your hands to serve instead of withdrawing. Opening your arms to comfort a child or grandchild. Sitting quietly in a chair, breathing in His presence when your energy is low.
At other times, it may look like saying no to something that pulls you away from Him. Turning from a habit that dulls your heart. Stepping away from comparisons that tell you you’re not enough. Allowing the Holy Spirit to guide how you use your strength, your time, and your physical presence in the world.
Underneath all of this is not pressure, but belonging.
You glorify God in your body not to earn the price that was paid, but because the price has already been paid. You are responding to love, not trying to buy it.
So, if you look in the mirror today and feel only criticism, pause. Let the words of this verse stand between you and that harsh inner voice: “You were bought with a price.” This body, with its history and its limitations, is carried in the arms of Christ.
If you feel invisible because of age or illness, remember: God has not overlooked you. He has entered fully into our humanity in Jesus, taken on a body, suffered in a body, risen in a body. He understands what it is to be tired, to hurt, to feel weakness. He is not distant from your physical reality.
And if you feel guilt over ways you have misused or neglected your body, there is still mercy. The One who bought you also cleanses you. You can come to Him honestly, without pretending, trusting that His forgiveness reaches every part of your life-including your physical story.
Today, let this verse be less of a demand and more of a gentle reminder: you are costly to God. You are not your own. You belong to a Savior who has written your name on His hands. From that place of secure belonging, you can begin, in small, quiet ways, to glorify God in your body.
Quiet Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You that I was bought with a price I could never pay. Help me to remember that my body, with all its weaknesses and changes, belongs to You. Teach me what it means, in simple, everyday ways, to glorify You in my body. Where I feel shame or regret, cover me with Your mercy and speak Your truth over me. Let my whole self-heart, mind, and body-rest in Your gentle care.
Quick Next Step
At some point today, stand or sit in front of a mirror, place your hand over your heart, and quietly repeat 1 Corinthians 6:20 to yourself three times, thanking God that you have been bought with a price and asking Him, in one simple sentence, to show you one small way to honor Him in your body today.
