Verse of the Day
Psalm 22:1
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?”
Quiet Prayer
Lord, You see the moments when I also ask why You feel so far away. Thank You that this cry is written in Scripture, and that You welcome such honesty. Meet me in places that feel abandoned, and steady my heart with the quiet truth that You have not let me go. Teach me to bring my confusion and pain to You instead of hiding it, and help me rest in Your faithful presence.
Devotional Reflection
There is a holy honesty in this verse. It is not neat or polite. It sounds like the kind of prayer you whisper through tears when you are not sure what God is doing.
You may know what it is to sit in a quiet house, phone in hand, wishing someone would call, feeling forgotten. Spiritual loneliness can feel like that. You still believe, yet your heart asks, Why are You so far from saving me?
Psalm 22 gives you words for that place. God chose to keep this cry in Scripture. He did not hide it. Even more, Jesus took these same words on His lips on the cross. That means your deepest distress is not foreign to Him. He has stepped inside it.
Feeling forsaken is not the same as being forsaken. The silence of God is not the absence of God. Often, in the very place that feels most empty, He is doing a hidden work of holding you, shaping trust that does not depend on what you can see.
You do not have to tidy your heart before you pray. You can begin exactly here, with the words of this psalm, and let your tears become your offering.
Quick Next Step
Take five quiet minutes and slowly read Psalm 22 out loud, stopping after the first verse. Where your own story echoes these words, pause and gently tell God about it.
