Genesis 5:1
This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him.

Genesis 5:1 is easy to pass over. We are made in His likeness. We are not random. We are not forgotten. We are created with intention, and that identity does not change no matter how long the waiting lasts.
This chapter chronicles generations of people who lived through long stretches of time. Adam himself lived to see his great-great-great-great-great-grandchildren. These were people who experienced life in slow motion by our standards. They planted. They waited. They raised families. They passed down stories of Eden, of the fall, of God’s promise to one day crush the serpent’s head. Yet they never saw that promise fulfilled in their lifetime.

God does not waste your waiting. He is growing something in you that could not develop any other way. He is building trust that does not depend on outcomes. He is forming character that reflects His image more clearly. He is teaching you to rest in His faithfulness instead of demanding your own timeline.
This does not mean the waiting is easy. It does not mean you will always feel confident or peaceful. But it does mean that God is with you in it. He has not left you. He has not stopped working. And the identity He gave you at the beginning, the truth that you are made in His likeness, remains unshaken no matter how long the waiting lasts.
Genesis 5:1 is a quiet verse, but it holds a powerful truth. You are not defined by what has not happened yet. You are defined by whose image you bear. And that is enough to sustain you while God’s timing is still unfolding.
