Yet tucked inside these ancient records is a quiet truth about how God works in time. Jared lived centuries after his son was born. Life continued. Days turned into decades. Ordinary moments stretched across generations.
You might wonder why Scripture preserves such details. But there is something profoundly grounding here. God’s faithfulness is not measured in single moments or quick resolutions. It unfolds across lifetimes, extending beyond what we can see or control.

Genesis 5:16 does not tell a dramatic story. It simply states that Jared lived for hundreds of years after his son was born. There were no miracles recorded in this stretch, no battles won, no prophecies spoken. Just life continuing under the quiet sovereignty of God.
This is where many of us find ourselves today. We are living in the long middle. The promise has been spoken, the hope has been planted, but we are still waiting for the breakthrough. The days feel repetitive. The progress feels slow. We wonder if God is still moving or if we have been forgotten.
But this verse reminds us that God’s work is not always visible in the moment. Jared’s life mattered. His faithfulness mattered. The years that followed were not wasted or meaningless. They were part of a larger story God was writing, one generation at a time.
You may feel like you are in a waiting season that has stretched far longer than you expected. You prayed for clarity, and the silence continues. You asked for change, and things remain the same. You believed for a breakthrough, and you are still in the wilderness. It is easy to interpret delay as denial, to assume that nothing is happening because you cannot see the fruit yet.
But God does not measure time the way we do. What feels like stagnation to you may be preparation in His hands. What looks like delay may be protection. What seems like silence may be the space He is giving you to grow deeper roots before the harvest comes.
Think of a farmer who plants a seed. The ground looks unchanged for weeks. There is no visible progress, no sign that anything is happening beneath the surface. But the seed is breaking open in the dark soil. Roots are forming. Life is beginning, even when no one can see it yet. The farmer does not dig up the seed to check on it. He trusts the process, waiting with patience and knowing that growth takes time.
This is what it means to trust God in the waiting season. It is not passive resignation. It is active faith that believes God is working even when you cannot see it. It is the choice to remain faithful in the ordinary days, the unnoticed years, the long stretches where nothing seems to change.
Genesis 5:16 does not say Jared wasted his time or lost hope. It simply says he lived. He kept going. He remained faithful. And his life became part of the lineage that eventually led to Jesus. His faithfulness in the waiting was not in vain.
Your life is not in vain either. The prayers you have prayed in secret are not forgotten. The seeds you have planted in faith are not lost. The obedience you have walked out in the silence is not invisible to God. He sees every moment. He honors every act of trust. And He is weaving your story into something far greater than you can see right now.
Waiting does not mean nothing is happening. It means God is at work in ways that require patience, trust, and a willingness to let Him move in His timing, not yours.
You do not need to force the breakthrough. You do not need to manufacture the outcome. You simply need to remain faithful in the waiting, trust that God is good, and believe that His timing is perfect even when it does not feel like it.
