Genesis 9:6
Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.
This verse comes after the flood, when God establishes His covenant with Noah and begins to rebuild order in a broken world. It speaks to the sacred value God places on human life. Every person carries the image of God, and that reality changes everything about how we see ourselves and others.
Genesis 9:6 reminds us that being made in God’s image is not something we earn or lose. It is woven into who we are. Even when we feel forgotten, overlooked, or unseen, God sees us fully. He values us completely. That truth holds steady, even when life feels uncertain.

Devotional Reflection
Waiting is hard. Whether you are waiting for direction, healing, breakthrough, or clarity, the uncertainty can make you question your value. You start to wonder if God sees you. If He remembers you. If your life really matters in the bigger story He is writing.
Genesis 9:6 speaks into that doubt. God declares that human life is sacred because it bears His image. This is not based on productivity, achievement, or visible progress. It is based on who God is and what He has placed within you. You are not waiting because you are forgotten. You are waiting because God is still at work, and His timing is purposeful.
This verse comes in a moment of rebuilding. The flood has passed, and God is reestablishing order. He is making covenant promises. He is setting boundaries that protect what is sacred. And in the middle of that reconstruction, He anchors everything in one foundational truth: humanity reflects the image of the Creator.
That truth does not change based on your circumstances. It does not shift when your waiting season stretches longer than you expected. It remains constant, even when you feel stuck or stalled. You are made in God’s image. That is your worth. That is your identity. And it is secure.
Trusting God in the waiting means believing that what Christ has already done is enough. His sacrifice secured your value once and for all. You do not have to prove yourself. You do not have to rush ahead or force open doors. You can rest in the finished work of the cross and trust that God is moving, even when you cannot see it yet.
Think of a seed planted in the ground. For weeks, nothing visible happens. The soil looks the same. The surface is still. But beneath the ground, roots are growing. Life is forming. The waiting is not wasted. It is necessary. And when the time is right, what has been hidden will break through.
Your waiting season may feel like that quiet, hidden time. But God is at work. He is forming something in you that will matter when the breakthrough comes. He is deepening your trust. He is teaching you to rest in His character rather than your circumstances. And He is reminding you that your life holds sacred value, not because of what you accomplish, but because you are His.
Genesis 9:6 also calls you to see others through this same lens. When you recognize the image of God in yourself, you start to see it in the people around you. The coworker who frustrates you. The family member who misunderstands you. The stranger whose story you will never know. All of them carry the same sacred worth. All of them matter to God.
Waiting well means holding onto this truth for yourself and extending it to others. It means refusing to let impatience, comparison, or bitterness distort how you see the people God has placed in your life. It means trusting that God values every person, every story, and every season, including yours.
You do not have to know what comes next to trust that God sees you. You do not have to have all the answers to rest in His faithfulness. What Christ secured on the cross is not dependent on your perfect understanding or your flawless patience. It is finished. It is certain. And it holds you steady, even now.
Today’s Practice
When doubt creeps in today, pause and say out loud, “I am made in the image of God.” Let that truth settle over you. Then ask God to help you see one person around you through that same lens, and respond to them with grace.
