Exodus 12:7

Verse of the Day

Exodus 12:7

Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses where they eat it.

The night of the Passover was a night of terrible judgment and miraculous deliverance. God’s people in Egypt received clear instructions: take the blood of a lamb and mark your doorway. This wasn’t symbolic ritual. It was life or death obedience. The blood on the doorpost would distinguish between those who trusted God’s word and those who did not.

This single act of obedience became the defining moment of Israel’s rescue. God was bringing them out of slavery and into freedom, but first they had to trust Him enough to apply the blood exactly as He commanded.

Quiet Prayer

Lord, I thank You for being a God who delivers Your people. Just as You marked the doorways in Egypt with blood, You have marked my life with the blood of Jesus. Help me to trust Your rescue even when I cannot yet see the full picture. Teach me to obey Your instruction without hesitation, knowing that You are faithful to save. I place my trust in You today.

Devotional Reflection

The Passover was not just about escaping Egypt. It was about learning to trust God’s method of deliverance. The Israelites could have questioned the instruction. They could have wondered why blood on a doorpost mattered. But this was not the moment for debate. This was the moment for obedience.

God had given them a way out, and it required faith to follow it. The lamb had to be chosen. The blood had to be applied. The doorway had to be marked. Every step mattered because God said it mattered. And when the angel of death passed over Egypt that night, every home marked with blood was spared.

This passover devotion reminds us that God’s deliverance often comes with specific instruction. He doesn’t just rescue us in theory. He rescues us in real moments, through real obedience, by real faith. When you are in a season of transition or standing on the edge of a new chapter, the way forward may require you to trust God’s wisdom over your own understanding.

You may not see the full reason behind what He’s asking. You may not understand why certain steps matter. But God is not unclear about His faithfulness. He delivers those who trust Him.

The blood on the doorpost was a visible mark of invisible faith. It said, “I believe God will do what He promised.” It was a confession made in obedience before the outcome was visible. That is still what faith looks like today.

When God is leading you out of something old and into something new, He may ask you to take steps that feel small or strange. He may ask you to obey before you feel ready. But those acts of obedience become the doorway through which His deliverance enters your life.

The Israelites didn’t earn their freedom by being perfect. They were rescued because they trusted God’s word and acted on it. That same grace is available to you. God has already provided the way. He has already made the path clear. Your part is to follow it, even when it feels uncertain.

This passage also reminds us that deliverance is personal. Every household applied the blood to their own door. No one could borrow someone else’s obedience. No one could stand at a distance and hope it counted. Each family had to act in faith for themselves.

In the same way, your relationship with God is not secondhand. You cannot rely on someone else’s faith to carry you through. God invites you personally to trust Him, to follow His instruction, and to walk through the door He opens.

The Passover was the beginning of a long journey toward freedom. It wasn’t the end. But it was the faithful first step. That’s what this season may be for you too. A beginning. A turning point. A moment when you choose to trust God’s rescue over your own ability to save yourself.

Today’s Practice

Identify one area where God is asking you to obey Him in faith, even if you don’t fully understand the reason yet. Take one small, tangible step of obedience today and trust that He is faithful to deliver you.
