Verse of the Day
Colossians 3:10
And have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
God’s work in you is not finished. You are not meant to stay the same. The new self you have been given in Christ is alive, active, and continually being renewed. This is not a one-time event. It is an ongoing transformation rooted in knowing God more deeply.
Paul writes to believers who have already begun their journey with Christ, reminding them that renewal is part of the journey itself. You are being reshaped, not by your own effort alone, but by the image of the One who created you. This new beginning devotional truth is especially meaningful when you long for change but feel uncertain how to move forward.
Quiet Prayer
Father, thank You for making me new. I confess that I sometimes hold tightly to old ways, old fears, and old versions of myself. Help me trust that You are renewing me, even when I cannot see it yet. Teach me to seek knowledge of You and let that knowledge reshape my heart. I want to reflect Your image more clearly today than I did yesterday.
Devotional Reflection
There is something deeply freeing about knowing that your transformation is not dependent solely on your willpower. The renewal Paul speaks of is not a self-improvement plan. It is the work of God in someone who has already been made new in Christ.
When you accepted Jesus, you put on the new self. That is a finished reality. But the renewing of that self is ongoing. It happens as you grow in knowledge of God, as you let Scripture shape your thinking, and as you submit areas of your life to His truth. It is the difference between being given a house and learning to live in it well.
This verse speaks directly to those standing at the edge of a new beginning. Maybe you are stepping into a new year, a new season, or a new chapter after loss or disappointment. You may feel the weight of old patterns, old wounds, or old identities that no longer fit who God says you are. The truth is this: renewal is not about erasing your past. It is about being reshaped by the One who knows you fully and loves you still.
The phrase “in the image of its Creator” matters. You are not being renewed into someone else’s calling or someone else’s story. You are being renewed into the person God designed you to be from the beginning. That image was distorted by sin, but it is being restored through Christ. Every time you choose obedience over comfort, truth over fear, or trust over control, you are participating in that renewal.
This happens in knowledge. Not just information, but the kind of knowledge that comes from relationship. You grow in wisdom as you spend time with God, as you open His Word, and as you let His character inform your choices. Renewal is not passive. It requires your attention, your willingness, and your surrender.
Think of it like this: a garden in early spring does not look like much at first. The soil has been turned. Seeds have been planted. But nothing is visible yet. Growth is happening beneath the surface. You may not feel different every day, but God is working. You are being renewed in knowledge, and that knowledge is shaping you from the inside out.
If you are entering a new beginning with hesitation, let this verse steady you. You do not have to have it all figured out. You do not have to become a new person overnight. You simply have to trust that God is faithful to complete what He has started. Your part is to stay close to Him, to seek Him in His Word, and to let His truth renew your mind and heart.
Today’s Practice
Take a few minutes to write down one area of your life where you want God to bring renewal. It could be your thought patterns, your relationships, your habits, or your sense of purpose. Ask Him to give you one piece of wisdom or one small step you can take today to grow in knowledge of Him in that area. Then take that step, however small it may seem.
