Verse of the Day
Exodus 12:11
This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the LORD’s Passover.
God’s instructions to Israel on the night of the Passover were specific and urgent. They were to eat dressed for travel, ready to move at a moment’s notice. This wasn’t a leisurely meal. It was preparation for deliverance.
The Passover marked the final plague before Pharaoh would release God’s people from slavery. After centuries of bondage, freedom was coming. But it required readiness. God was asking them to trust Him enough to be prepared for what they couldn’t yet see.
Quiet Prayer
Lord, thank You for being a God who delivers. Thank You that You see when I am stuck, bound, or waiting for freedom. Help me trust You enough to stay ready, even when I don’t know the exact timing of what You’re doing. Give me the faith to obey You in the waiting and the courage to move when You say it’s time. I trust that You are faithful to finish what You’ve started in my life.
Devotional Reflection
The image of the Israelites eating with their shoes on and their bags packed is striking. They had been enslaved for generations. They had cried out to God for relief. And now, on the very night God would strike down Egypt’s firstborn and secure their release, He told them to get ready.
This wasn’t passive waiting. It was active obedience. God didn’t just ask them to hope for freedom. He asked them to prepare for it.
There’s something deeply challenging about this kind of faith. It’s one thing to pray for God to move. It’s another thing to live as though He already is. The Israelites didn’t know exactly when Pharaoh would let them go. They didn’t have a departure time or a detailed map. But they trusted God enough to be dressed and ready.
You may be in a season where you’ve been praying for breakthrough, for change, for God to open a door or make a way. You’ve asked Him to move. You’ve waited longer than you wanted to. In the waiting, it’s easy to settle in, to stop expecting anything to shift.
But God may be asking you to stay ready. Not anxious. Not frantic. Just spiritually prepared. Obedient in the small things. Faithful in what He’s already told you to do. Keeping your heart soft and your hands open.
The Passover wasn’t just about physical freedom. It was about God’s covenant faithfulness. He had promised Abraham that his descendants would be brought out of Egypt. Hundreds of years later, God remembered that promise. And when the time came, He acted with power and precision.
The same God who delivered Israel is still a God of faithful rescue. He sees where you are. He knows what you’re carrying. And He is working, even when the circumstances haven’t changed yet.
This passage also reminds us that obedience often comes before understanding. The Israelites didn’t eat the Passover meal because they fully understood God’s plan. They obeyed because God said to. And their obedience positioned them to receive what God was about to do.
Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is take the next step God has already shown you, even if you can’t see the full picture. Maybe it’s forgiving someone. Maybe it’s letting go of control. Maybe it’s saying yes to something that feels uncomfortable. Maybe it’s simply continuing to trust Him when everything in you wants to give up.
God honored the Israelites’ readiness. When Pharaoh finally released them, they didn’t have to scramble. They were already prepared. They walked out in freedom because they had obeyed in faith.
Your waiting isn’t wasted. Your obedience isn’t overlooked. God is preparing you for what’s ahead, and He will be faithful to bring you through.
Today’s Practice
Ask God if there’s one area where He’s calling you to be spiritually ready. It might be an attitude you need to release, a conversation you need to have, or a step of obedience you’ve been avoiding. Write it down and take one small action today that reflects your trust in His timing and His deliverance.
