Genesis 10:23
The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
This verse appears in the middle of a genealogy, a long list of names tracing the descendants of Noah’s sons after the flood. At first glance, it feels like the kind of Scripture we skip over. Just names. Just lineage. Just another verse tucked into the background of a much larger story.
But Genesis 10:23 holds something quieter and more personal than we might expect. It reminds us that God was working through ordinary, unnamed generations to bring about His greater purpose. These were real people, living real lives, in seasons that likely felt unremarkable. And yet, each one mattered in the unfolding of redemption.
When you are in a waiting season, when nothing feels significant and God’s timing still seems distant, this verse speaks. It says that even the quiet, ordinary moments are part of the story God is writing.
Quiet Prayer
Lord, help me trust You in the waiting. When my life feels ordinary and Your plan still feels unclear, remind me that You are always working. Teach me to believe that even the small, unseen moments matter to You. I trust that You are faithful, even when I cannot yet see what You are building. Amen.
Devotional Reflection
Genealogies in Scripture often feel like roadblocks to modern readers. We want the stories, the miracles, the moments where God shows up in obvious ways. But genealogies are filled with people who lived between those moments. People who were born, raised families, worked, worshiped, and died without seeing the fullness of what God was doing.
Genesis 10:23 lists four sons of Aram. We know almost nothing about them. Scripture does not tell us their personalities, their struggles, or their faith journeys. But it does tell us they existed. They were part of the line that would eventually lead to Abraham, to Israel, and ultimately to Jesus. Their lives mattered, not because they were famous, but because they were faithful in their generation.
This is what it means to trust God while His timing is still unfolding. You may not see the outcome. You may not understand why this season feels so slow or so ordinary. But God is building something through your faithfulness, even when you cannot see it yet.
Think about a tree growing in your backyard. For years, it might look small and unremarkable. You water it, you tend it, and you wait. You do not see the root system spreading deep beneath the soil. You do not see the slow strengthening of the trunk. But the tree is growing. And one day, it will bear fruit, provide shade, and stand strong through storms.
Your waiting season is like that. God is doing things beneath the surface. He is strengthening your faith, deepening your trust, and preparing you for what is coming. You may not see it now, but that does not mean it is not happening.
Genesis 10:23 reminds us that faithfulness in the ordinary is never wasted. These four men lived their lives in obscurity, yet their obedience mattered. They passed on faith to the next generation. They raised families who would carry the story forward. They trusted God even when they could not see the bigger picture.
You are doing the same. You are living faithfully in a season that may feel small or slow. You are trusting God even when the timeline does not make sense. You are believing that He is good, even when you cannot yet see the outcome.
God does not waste your waiting. He is not ignoring your prayers or forgetting your faithfulness. He is working in ways you cannot see, building something far greater than you could ask or imagine. Your job is not to force the outcome or rush the process. Your job is to trust Him today, in this moment, with what He has given you.
The story of Genesis 10:23 is not dramatic. It is not filled with miracles or mountaintop moments. But it is part of the story of redemption. And so is yours.

Write down one area where you are waiting on God right now. Then thank Him for being faithful in that area, even if you cannot see movement yet. Trust that He is working beneath the surface, and commit to faithfulness in this season.
