Genesis 1:11

Verse of the Day

Genesis 1:11

And God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so.

Before any human hand touched the soil, God spoke life into the earth. He commanded the land to produce, and it obeyed. The fruit came because He gave the word. The seed multiplied because He designed it that way. Everything that grows does so because God first planted the capacity for life within it.

This is not just a story about creation. It is a picture of how God works in you.

Quiet Prayer

Father, thank You that You are the source of all life and growth. Teach me to receive the love You have already planted in me. Help me trust that what You command, You also supply. Let me live from Your abundance, not my striving. I want to bear the fruit that comes from You alone. Amen.

Devotional Reflection

God speaks, and things come into being. He does not ask the land to strain or manufacture what it does not have. He gives the land what it needs to produce, and then He calls it forth. The earth responds not out of effort but out of design. It bears fruit because God made it fruitful.

You are called to live the same way.

When God commands you to love, He is not asking you to conjure up something from an empty well. He is calling forth what He has already placed within you. Love is not something you generate on your own. It is something you receive from Him and then offer to others. You love because He first loved you. You forgive because you have been forgiven. You extend grace because grace has been given to you.

This changes everything about how you approach the Christian life. You are not working to produce love through willpower or moral effort. You are learning to live from the love God has already planted in your heart through His Spirit. The fruit does not come from you. It comes through you as you remain rooted in Him.

Think of a tree. It does not decide to produce apples. It simply draws from the soil, absorbs the sunlight, and stays connected to its roots. The fruit appears because the tree is doing what it was made to do. When you abide in Christ, the same thing happens. The love, patience, kindness, and gentleness you long to show others are not manufactured. They grow naturally as you stay connected to the Source.

Many of us know God commands us to love others, and we try to obey. We push ourselves to be kinder, more patient, more selfless. We feel the weight of the command but forget the supply. We act as though we must pull love out of ourselves instead of receiving it from God and letting it overflow.

That kind of living leads to exhaustion. You end up drained, frustrated, and wondering why you cannot seem to love the way Scripture describes. But God never intended for you to love from your own limited strength. He intended for you to live from His limitless supply.

When you wake up tomorrow and face someone difficult, you do not have to muster up love on your own. You can ask God to fill you with His love for that person. When you feel dry, impatient, or irritable, you do not have to condemn yourself. You can turn back to the One who is the source and ask Him to renew you. He is not waiting for you to get it right on your own. He is waiting for you to depend on Him.

The land did not question whether it could produce vegetation. It simply responded to the word of God. You are invited to do the same. When God calls you to love, trust that He has already given you everything you need to obey. The command and the supply come from the same place.

This is what it means to live in a growth season. You are learning not to strive but to receive. You are learning that obedience flows from intimacy. You are learning that the fruit of love is not about trying harder but about staying close to the One who is love Himself.

Today’s Practice

Before you interact with others today, take a moment to ask God to fill you with His love. Instead of trying to be patient or kind on your own, acknowledge that you need Him to love through you. Let that be your starting place, not your last resort.
