Genesis 11:15
And Eber lived four hundred and thirty years after he begat Peleg, and begat sons and daughters.
This verse sits quietly in the middle of a genealogy. A simple record of years and generations. Eber lived, he had children, and the line continued. There is no drama here, no miracle, no burning bush. Just the steady march of time and the faithfulness of God woven through it.
Sometimes Scripture reminds us that faithfulness is not always loud. It is not always marked by moments we can point to and say, “That’s when everything changed.” Often, it looks like ordinary life stretching out over hundreds of years, with God keeping His promises in ways that are only visible when we step back and see the whole picture.
Quiet Prayer
Father, I confess that waiting is hard for me. I want to see Your hand moving now, not years from now. I want clarity and resolution, not more ordinary days that feel like nothing is happening. Teach me to trust You in the long stretches, in the quiet seasons, in the spaces where I cannot yet see what You are building. Help me believe that You are faithful even when my circumstances look unchanged. Amen.
Devotional Reflection
Genesis 11:15 appears in a genealogy that traces the line from Shem to Abram. These chapters are easy to skip. They feel repetitive, even tedious. But they serve a purpose. They show us that God’s promises unfold over generations, not just in single lifetimes.
Eber lived 430 years after his son Peleg was born. That is a long time. And yet, this verse does not tell us what Eber accomplished or whether he felt fulfilled. It simply tells us that he lived, he had children, and the line continued. God’s plan moved forward, even though Eber himself likely never saw the full scope of it.
You may be in a season where it feels like nothing is happening. You are praying, you are obeying, you are showing up each day. But the breakthrough has not come. The promise has not been fulfilled. The answer has not arrived. And you wonder if God is still working, or if you have been forgotten.
This verse whispers a truth that is easy to miss. God is faithful in the waiting. He is faithful in the years that stretch out longer than you hoped. He is faithful in the seasons where all you can do is live and trust and keep going.
Think of a tree growing in your backyard. Most of the time, you cannot see any change. It looks the same today as it did last week. But beneath the surface, roots are deepening. Cells are dividing. Growth is happening, even when you cannot measure it. The tree does not grow in sudden bursts. It grows steadily, quietly, over years.
Your life in God works the same way. You are not wasting time when you are waiting. You are not stuck when the circumstances look unchanged. God is at work in ways you cannot yet see, building something that will matter long after you are gone.
Eber did not live to see Abraham. He did not see the covenant God would make with his descendant. He did not see the nation of Israel or the coming of the Messiah through that line. But his faithfulness mattered. His ordinary life, lived in trust, was part of the foundation God used to keep His promise.
You may not see the full picture in your lifetime either. You may not get the resolution you are praying for this year, or even in the next ten years. But that does not mean your faithfulness is wasted. It does not mean God has forgotten you. It means you are part of a much larger story, and God is weaving your life into something greater than you can imagine right now.
Trusting God while His timing is still unfolding means letting go of the demand for immediate proof. It means believing that God is good even when the evidence is not yet visible. It means choosing to live faithfully today, even if you never see the harvest.
This is not passive resignation. This is active trust. It is showing up, obeying, loving, serving, and believing that God is working even when you cannot feel it. It is refusing to let disappointment harden your heart or delay steal your peace.
The genealogies in Genesis remind us that God’s promises are bigger than one person’s life. They span generations. They require patience, trust, and a willingness to play your part even when you cannot see the ending.
You are not forgotten. You are not invisible. Your life matters in God’s plan, even if the world never knows your name. Like Eber, you are part of the story God is telling. And He is faithful to finish what He starts, even if it takes longer than you hoped.
Today’s Practice
Write down one area where you are waiting on God right now. Then, underneath it, write this simple prayer: “God, I trust You are working even when I cannot see it.” Return to this prayer each time impatience or doubt creeps in, and let it steady your heart.
