When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he fathered Enosh.
This single verse from the genealogy of Genesis marks a quiet moment in the ancient record. Mahalalel waited sixty-five years before becoming a father. Mahalalel’s story is not dramatic. There is no miraculous birth announcement, no divine intervention recorded. He simply lived, and after sixty-five years, God gave him a son. That son became part of the lineage that would eventually lead to Noah, and later to Jesus Himself. What looked like a long and ordinary wait was part of God’s faithful plan to bring salvation into the world.
When you are in a waiting season, it rarely feels purposeful. It feels stalled. The things you have asked God for, the doors you have prayed would open, the promises you believe He has spoken over your life seem to sit untouched. Days turn into months. Months turn into years. And the question grows louder: Has God forgotten?
Genesis 5:15 says no. God does not forget. He does not abandon His people in the waiting. His purposes are being worked out even when we cannot trace them. Mahalalel did not know that his son would be part of a lineage that mattered eternally. He could not see the bigger story. He simply had to live faithfully in the season he was given.
You may not see what God is preparing either. You may not understand why the timeline has stretched longer than you hoped. But your waiting is not wasted. God is still writing your story. He is still at work, even in the quiet years.
Trusting God in the waiting does not mean pretending it does not hurt. It does not mean silencing your questions or forcing a smile over your disappointment. It means bringing your honest heart to Him and choosing to believe that His faithfulness is deeper than your frustration. It means remembering that delay is not the same as denial.
There is something tender in the way Scripture records this moment. Genesis 5:15 does not minimize Mahalalel’s wait. It acknowledges it. Sixty-five years is named. God does not gloss over the long seasons His people walk through. He sees them. He knows the weight of waiting, and He honors it by writing it into the sacred record.

His son Enosh was part of the lineage that connected Adam to Noah, and Noah to Abraham, and Abraham to David, and David to Christ. One man’s quiet obedience in a long season contributed to the unfolding of God’s redemptive plan.
You may feel like your story is small, like your waiting does not matter in the grand scheme of things. But God does not waste any part of your journey. The faithfulness you are living out today, in the unseen places, in the unresolved spaces, is part of something bigger than you can measure. Your trust in the waiting is an act of worship, and it matters.
Genesis 5:15 does not promise that every wait will end the way we hope. It does not give us a formula for speeding up God’s timeline. But it does remind us that God’s faithfulness is constant. He kept His promise to Mahalalel. He kept His promise to carry forward the line that would bring the Savior. And He will keep His promises to you.
