Genesis 6:11
Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence.
Before the flood, before the ark was sealed, before the rain began to fall, there was a long stretch of waiting. Genesis 6:11 captures the condition of the world God was about to judge. But this verse also marks a moment in Noah’s life when he knew God’s plan and yet still had to live in the middle of a world that hadn’t changed.
Noah had received clear instruction. He knew what God was going to do. But the corruption around him didn’t stop. The violence didn’t pause. The people didn’t repent. And Noah still had to build, wait, and trust while everything around him stayed exactly the same.
That kind of waiting requires a different kind of faith.

Lord, I believe You are at work even when I can’t see it yet. Help me trust Your timing when the world around me feels unchanged. Give me the strength to keep obeying, keep building, keep waiting, even when nothing around me reflects what You’ve promised. I trust that You see what I cannot, and that Your word is enough. Amen.
Devotional Reflection
There’s a unique difficulty in knowing God has spoken and still living in a world that looks like He hasn’t. Noah experienced this in a profound way. God had given him a promise and a purpose. He told him judgment was coming. He told him to build an ark. He told him his family would be saved.
But none of that changed the reality Noah woke up to every day.
Genesis 6:11 tells us the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and full of violence. That means Noah was still surrounded by the very things God was preparing to judge. The mockery didn’t stop. The chaos didn’t pause. The culture didn’t soften. And yet Noah had to keep building, keep trusting, keep walking in obedience while the world around him stayed the same.
This is the tension of waiting seasons. You know God has spoken. You’ve received direction, conviction, maybe even a clear promise. But your circumstances don’t reflect it yet. The people around you don’t see it. The world you’re living in hasn’t shifted. And you’re left holding onto God’s word in the middle of a reality that still looks broken.
It’s tempting in those moments to wonder if you heard Him wrong. It’s easy to feel foolish when you’re the only one acting like something is coming. It’s hard to keep obeying when there’s no visible reward, no applause, no confirmation from the world around you.
But that’s where trust deepens.
Noah didn’t wait for the world to change before he started building. He didn’t wait for people to believe him. He didn’t wait for the corruption to ease or the violence to stop. He simply trusted that God’s word was more real than what he could see, and he acted accordingly.
You may be in a similar place right now. Maybe God has called you to something that doesn’t make sense to anyone else. Maybe He’s told you to wait, to stay, to keep going, even though nothing around you confirms it. Maybe you’re holding onto a promise while your circumstances still look like Genesis 6:11. Corrupt. Chaotic. Unchanged.
That doesn’t mean God isn’t moving. It means His timing is still unfolding.
The flood didn’t come the day Noah started building. It came after years of faithful obedience in the middle of a world that mocked him. The rescue didn’t happen because Noah saw results early. It happened because he trusted God’s word more than the evidence around him.
You don’t have to see the shift to believe it’s coming. You don’t have to wait for your circumstances to look better before you trust God’s voice. You simply have to do what Noah did. Keep building. Keep obeying. Keep trusting that God sees what you cannot, and that His word will not return void.
The world around you may still be full of noise, resistance, or brokenness. That’s not a sign you heard wrong. It’s just a sign the rain hasn’t started yet. But it will. And when it does, you’ll be glad you kept building when no one else believed.

Take one small obedient step today in the direction God has already shown you, even if nothing around you has changed yet. Write it down, pray over it, and choose to trust His word more than your circumstances.
