Verse of the Day
Genesis 9:10
and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth.
After the flood, God speaks a covenant promise that reaches beyond Noah and his family. He includes every creature that walked off the ark. The birds. The livestock. The wild animals. God’s promise extends to all of creation, to everything that journeyed through the storm and stepped into a new beginning.
This verse lands in the middle of God’s covenant with Noah, a moment when God is establishing something permanent. Notice how specific He is. He doesn’t speak in general terms. He names the creatures. He acknowledges the scope of what has been saved and what will be sustained moving forward.
It’s a verse about inclusion, provision, and the intentionality of God’s care. It speaks to anyone standing at the edge of a new chapter, wondering if what they carry forward matters.
Quiet Prayer
Father, thank You for including me in Your purposes. Thank You that nothing You’ve entrusted to me is insignificant in Your eyes. Help me trust that what I’ve carried through difficult seasons has meaning in what comes next. Teach me to walk forward with intention, knowing You see it all and that Your covenant covers more than I realize. Amen.
Devotional Reflection
Genesis 9:10 appears in a moment of transition. The flood is over. The ark has landed. Noah and his family have stepped into a world that looks nothing like the one they left. Everything is starting again, and God is making promises about what comes next.
But before He speaks about rainbows or seasons, God pauses to name who is included in this covenant. Not just Noah. Not just his sons. Every living creature. Every bird that flew into the ark. Every animal that walked up the ramp. Every creature that survived the storm is part of what God is doing now.
It’s easy to read past this verse, but it holds something important for those of us in seasons of transition. When you’re starting over, when you’re stepping into something new, it’s natural to wonder what gets carried forward and what gets left behind. You wonder if the work you did before still matters. You wonder if the relationships, the lessons, the responsibilities you stewarded through hard seasons have any place in what God is building now.
This verse says yes. God doesn’t just save you and move on. He includes what He’s entrusted to you. He sees the whole scope of your life, the people and purposes you’ve carried, and He makes space for all of it in His plan.
Think about Noah for a moment. He didn’t just survive the flood. He brought others through it. He cared for creatures that couldn’t care for themselves. He stewarded life when everything around him was falling apart. When the storm ended, God didn’t tell him to walk away from that responsibility. He included it in the covenant. He acknowledged it. He made it part of the foundation for what came next.
The same is true for you. What you’ve carried through your wilderness, your waiting, your season of uncertainty matters. The people you’ve loved. The work you’ve done. The faithfulness you’ve shown when no one was watching. God sees it, and He’s not asking you to leave it behind as you move forward. He’s weaving it into the next chapter.
This doesn’t mean everything stays the same. Transition changes things. New chapters require new obedience. But it does mean that what you’ve been faithful with isn’t wasted. The care you’ve shown, the trust you’ve built, the stewardship you’ve practiced all carry weight in God’s economy. He doesn’t discard what He’s used to shape you.
Genesis 9:10 also reminds us that God’s purposes are bigger than we realize. His covenant didn’t just cover Noah. It covered every creature that came off the ark. It reached further than one man or one family. It touched all of creation. In the same way, the work God has given you to do isn’t just about you. It reaches further than you can see. The witness you carry, the love you show, the faithfulness you practice impact more than you know.
You may feel small in your new beginning. You may feel like you’re starting from scratch. But God is making space for all of it. He’s including what He’s entrusted to you in what He’s building next. He’s inviting you to walk forward with purpose, knowing that His covenant covers more than you realize.
Today’s Practice
Write down one responsibility or relationship God has entrusted to you that you’ve carried through a difficult season. Thank Him for including it in what He’s doing next, and ask Him to show you how to steward it well in this new chapter.
