Genesis 9:11
I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.
After the flood waters receded and the earth began again, God spoke a promise. It wasn’t just about weather patterns or water levels. It was about His faithfulness in the midst of devastation, His covenant in the aftermath of judgment, His care when everything felt uncertain.
Genesis 9:11 reminds us that God establishes His promises even when we’re still standing in the rubble of what was. Even when the ground is still damp. Even when we’re not sure what comes next.

Father, I bring You my waiting heart today. I confess that sometimes Your timing feels slow, and the uncertainty makes my soul weary. Help me trust that You are establishing something even now, even when I cannot see it. Teach me to rest in Your covenant faithfulness, not in my ability to understand Your timeline. Devotional Reflection
The flood was over, but Noah and his family were still adjusting. They had survived, yes, but the world they knew was gone. Everything was different. And in that liminal space between what was and what would be, God made a promise.
This is where many of us find ourselves. The crisis may have passed, but we’re still waiting for clarity. The storm may be over, but we’re still looking for solid ground. We’re in the waiting season, and we don’t know what God is doing or when He will move again.
Genesis 9:11 shows us something crucial about God’s character. He establishes His covenant while we’re still in the in-between. He doesn’t wait until we feel settled to make His promises. He doesn’t hold back His faithfulness until we’ve figured everything out. He speaks His word of assurance into the uncertainty itself.
Notice what God says. “I establish my covenant with you.” Not “I will establish” or “I might establish.” Present tense. Active. Definite. God is doing something right now, even if you can’t feel it yet. He is setting things in place. He is making promises that will hold. He is caring for you even when your circumstances haven’t caught up to His faithfulness.
This is what trust in God looks like in a waiting season. It’s not pretending you’re not tired. It’s not ignoring the weariness. It’s choosing to believe that God is establishing something even when all you see is the aftermath, the adjustment, the slow unfolding of His timing.
Think about a seed planted in dry soil. For days, maybe weeks, nothing visible happens. The soil looks the same. The surface is still. But beneath the ground, in the hidden places, roots are forming. Structure is being established. Life is preparing to break through. The waiting isn’t wasted. The stillness isn’t emptiness. God is at work in ways you cannot yet see.
The same is true in your life right now. You may feel like you’re in a dry season, waiting for God to move, wondering if He remembers you. But God’s covenant with you is not on hold. His care for you is not delayed. He is establishing His purposes even now, in this very season, in this very moment of uncertainty.
God’s promise to Noah wasn’t just about floods. It was about His character. It was a declaration that He is a covenant-keeping God, a faithful God, a God who does not abandon His people even when the world feels unstable. And that same character is at work in your life today.
When you feel weary, it’s easy to believe that God has stepped back. That He’s waiting for you to get stronger, or more faithful, or more deserving before He shows up. But Genesis 9:11 turns that assumption upside down. God establishes His covenant with you not because you’ve arrived, but because He is faithful. Not because your faith is perfect, but because His character is unchanging.
You don’t have to manufacture confidence. You don’t have to pretend the waiting doesn’t hurt. You simply return to what God has already said. He has made a covenant with you. He is caring for you. He is with you in the waiting, and His timing is unfolding exactly as it should.
This is the trust that sustains you in a waiting season. Not trust in your ability to figure things out, but trust in the God who establishes His promises while you’re still learning to breathe again. Not trust in your feelings, but trust in His Word. Not trust in what you can see, but trust in the One who is working beneath the surface, preparing something you cannot yet imagine.

Take a moment today to speak Genesis 9:11 aloud as a personal reminder. Say it slowly: God establishes His covenant with me. He is faithful even now. Let that truth settle into the weary places of your heart, and choose to trust that God is at work even while His timing is still unfolding.
