Verse of the Day
John 1:2
He was with God in the beginning.
Before anything existed, Christ was already there. This simple statement from John’s Gospel carries the weight of eternity. The Word, who would become flesh and dwell among us, existed in perfect communion with the Father from the very beginning. There was never a time when He was not.
This is the foundation of incarnation devotion: God did not send a messenger or a representative. He came Himself. The One who was with God in the beginning stepped into human history, into human flesh, into the ordinary rhythms of our everyday lives.
Quiet Prayer
Lord Jesus, You were there before the world began. You were with the Father in perfect love and perfect peace, and yet You chose to come near to me. Help me grasp the depth of what it means that You left glory to enter my brokenness. Thank You for being Immanuel, God with us. Let me rest in the nearness of Your presence today.
Devotional Reflection
It is easy to think of Jesus only in the context of Bethlehem, the manger, the incarnation itself. But John pulls our eyes further back. He reminds us that the baby in the manger was not a new beginning for God. He was the eternal Word, present with the Father before time, before creation, before anything we can name or imagine.
This truth changes everything about how we understand God’s nearness. When Jesus came to us, it was not a last-minute plan. It was not a reaction to our sin or a divine improvisation. It was the outworking of a love that existed before the foundation of the world. The incarnation was the culmination of an eternal decision made in the heart of God.
You may be in a season of transition right now. Perhaps you are stepping into something new, uncertain, unfamiliar. Maybe you are leaving behind what was comfortable and entering a chapter you did not choose. In moments like these, it is tempting to wonder if God is present, if He sees, if He cares about the details of your daily life.
This verse assures you: the One who holds your future is the same One who was with God in the beginning. He is not distant. He is not detached. He entered the mess and beauty of human existence because He wanted to be with you. That is the heart of incarnation devotion. God did not stay far off. He came close.
Think of it this way. When someone you love is going through something difficult, you do not just send a card or a kind message. You show up. You sit with them. You enter their world. That is what God did in Christ. He showed up. He sat with us. He entered our world, not as a tourist or an observer, but as one of us.
Grace meets us in this truth. We do not have to perform or prove ourselves worthy of God’s presence. He chose to be with us long before we knew we needed Him. The incarnation is grace personified. It is God saying, “I will not love you from a distance. I will come to you.”
As you navigate this season, whatever it holds, you are not alone. The eternal Word, who was with God in the beginning, is with you now. He knows what it is like to face uncertainty, to step into the unknown, to live as a human being with real limitations and real emotions. He has walked this road, and He walks it still with you.
This is not abstract theology. This is the daily comfort of knowing that the God who created everything chose to experience everything we experience. He knows hunger, fatigue, sadness, and joy. He knows what it is like to begin again, to move forward when the path is unclear, to trust the Father when the future is uncertain.
You can bring your whole self to Him because He brought His whole self to you. That is the gift of the incarnation. That is the grace we receive when we remember He was with God in the beginning and is with us now.
Today’s Practice
Take a quiet moment today and speak this truth aloud: “Jesus, You were with God in the beginning, and You are with me now.” Let that reality settle into your heart. Whatever transition or uncertainty you are facing, you are not walking through it alone. The eternal Word is present with you.
