John 21:1

Verse of the Day

John 21:1

After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way.

After everything had fallen apart. After the crucifixion. After the fear and confusion and grief. After the disciples had scattered and hidden and wondered if it was all over, Jesus revealed himself again.

This simple verse carries the weight of resurrection hope. It tells us that even when we think the story has ended, God is still at work. Even when we return to what we knew before, unsure of what comes next, Christ meets us there.

Quiet Prayer

Lord, I confess that sometimes I live as if the resurrection changes nothing. I return to old patterns, old fears, old doubts. Help me see that You are still revealing Yourself, still present, still at work in the ordinary moments of my life. Teach me to watch for You, to trust that You meet me even when I feel lost or uncertain. Let the truth of Your resurrection settle into my heart today.

Devotional Reflection

The disciples went fishing. After witnessing the resurrection, after seeing Jesus alive, they went back to the Sea of Tiberias and did what they knew how to do. They returned to the familiar.

It might seem strange at first. Why would they go back to their boats after everything they had seen? But this is exactly what restoration seasons feel like. You experience something powerful, something that changes you, but you are not entirely sure what comes next. So you return to what you know. You wait. You try to make sense of the new reality while living in the rhythm of the old.

The beauty of this verse is not just that the disciples went fishing. It is that Jesus revealed himself again. He did not leave them to figure it out alone. He came to them in the middle of their uncertainty, in the space between what had happened and what would come next.

Resurrection hope is not a one-time event that fades into memory. It is the ongoing truth that Christ continues to meet us. He reveals himself again and again, in the waiting, in the ordinary, in the moments when we are simply trying to move forward.

You may be in a season where you feel like you are returning to old routines, old struggles, old questions. You may wonder if the breakthrough you experienced was real or if it made any lasting difference. This verse reminds you that Jesus does not abandon you to your doubt. He shows up. He reveals himself in ways that are personal, specific, and exactly what you need.

The Sea of Tiberias was not a random location. It was where these men had spent years of their lives. It was familiar territory. And that is where Jesus met them. Not in a temple. Not in a moment of perfect faith. In the place where they were actually living.

Resurrection hope means believing that Christ is present in your actual life, not just in your spiritual highs. It means trusting that He is at work even when you feel like you are going through the motions. It means watching for Him in the ordinary, because that is often where He reveals himself most clearly.

This is what makes the resurrection more than a historical event. It is the foundation of how we live now. It is the reason we do not have to fear returning to hard places, because we know Christ can meet us there. It is the reason we do not have to pretend we have it all figured out, because His presence is not dependent on our clarity.

If you are in a restoration season, you may feel caught between the old and the new. You know something has changed, but you are not sure how to live into it yet. This verse speaks directly into that tension. Jesus revealed himself again. He will do the same for you.

Today’s Practice

Sit quietly and ask Jesus to reveal himself to you today in one specific way. It may be through a conversation, a moment of peace, or a quiet knowing that He is near. Pay attention to where you see Him show up in the familiar parts of your life.
