Lord, when I read words like these, I feel the weight of spiritual reality. I see the enemy’s hatred and his intent to destroy what You are birthing. Even in the middle of this waiting season, help me remember that You see the threat and You have already overcome it. Strengthen my faith to trust that what You protect cannot be devoured. Amen.
Devotional Reflection
Revelation 12:4 is not a gentle verse. It shows us a dragon, sweeping stars from the sky, positioning itself to destroy the child about to be born. The imagery is vivid, violent, and deeply unsettling. Yet it is also deeply true. This is not metaphor for metaphor’s sake. It is a picture of the spiritual war that has always been waging over God’s redemptive plan.
The dragon is Satan. The woman represents God’s faithful people. The child is Christ. And the moment described here is one of the most critical in all of history. The enemy stood ready to destroy the Savior the moment He entered the world. Yet he could not. What God purposed could not be stopped, no matter how fierce the opposition.
If you are in a waiting season right now, this passage offers more than dramatic imagery. It offers a grounding truth. The enemy opposes what God is doing. He always has. He hates what God loves. He seeks to devour what God is bringing to birth. But his power is limited, and his defeat is certain.
You may feel like something precious is under threat. A calling you have been carrying. A relationship you have been praying over. A vision God has planted in your heart that has not yet come to pass. The waiting can make you vulnerable to fear. It can feel like the enemy is circling, looking for a way to snatch what belongs to God.
But this verse does not end with the dragon winning. It shows us his intent, yes. But it also shows us his failure. The child was not devoured. Jesus was born, lived, died, rose, and ascended. The enemy’s greatest effort to stop God’s plan resulted in his greatest defeat.
What does this mean for you today? It means that what God is protecting in your life cannot be destroyed by opposition. It may feel threatened. It may look vulnerable. But if God has purposed it, the enemy cannot devour it.
Faith in a waiting season is not pretending there is no threat. It is choosing to believe that God is greater than the threat. It is choosing to trust that what He has started, He will finish. It is refusing to let fear dictate your posture when the enemy positions himself to intimidate.
You do not have to be naive about spiritual opposition. Scripture is not. But you also do not have to live in fear of it. The dragon’s tail swept stars from heaven, but he could not touch the child God was bringing into the world. His fury was real, but his power was limited.
Your waiting season may involve spiritual resistance you did not expect. You may sense the weight of opposition in ways that are hard to name but impossible to ignore. That does not mean you are off track. It may mean you are exactly where God intends you to be, and the enemy knows it.
Faith here looks like standing firm even when the threat feels close. It looks like continuing to believe that God’s purposes will not be stopped. It looks like refusing to shrink back because the enemy is loud.
The dragon in Revelation 12 is defeated not by human strength, but by the finished work of Christ. That same finished work covers you. What God has purposed for your life is held by His power, not your ability to protect it.
Today’s Practice
Bring before God one area where you feel spiritual opposition or fear that something precious is under threat. Ask Him to remind you that what He protects cannot be devoured. Rest in the truth that His plan has never been stopped by the enemy’s rage, and it will not be stopped now.
