Genesis 6:20
Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.
Noah received an impossible assignment. Build an ark. Gather the animals. Prepare for a flood no one had ever seen. But notice what God said here: the animals will come to you. Noah didn’t have to chase them down or figure out the logistics. He simply had to obey the command to build, and God handled what came next.
This verse sits quietly in the middle of the ark narrative, but it carries a powerful truth. Obedience doesn’t mean we control every outcome. It means we do what God asks and trust Him with what only He can do.
Quiet Prayer
Father, I confess that sometimes I hesitate to obey because I’m trying to see the whole picture first. I want to know how it will all work out before I take the first step. Teach me to trust You the way Noah did, to build what You’ve asked me to build and to believe You will bring what needs to come. Help me turn my belief into obedience today. Amen.
Devotional Reflection
Noah was called to do something that made no sense to anyone watching. There was no rain. There was no flood. There were no animals lined up at his door. All he had was a word from God and a choice: believe it enough to act on it, or let doubt keep him from starting.
Genesis 6:20 reminds us that God’s instructions often come with His provision, but not always in the order we expect. Noah had to start building before the animals arrived. He had to hammer and measure and endure the questions and mockery, all while trusting that God would fulfill what He promised.
You may be in a season right now where God has asked you to do something that doesn’t make complete sense yet. Maybe it’s a calling that feels too big. Maybe it’s a change you’re resisting because you can’t see how the pieces will come together. Maybe you’re waiting for confirmation before you move, but God is asking you to move so the confirmation can come.
Obedience isn’t passive. It’s not sitting back and waiting for everything to align. It’s active trust. It’s doing what God has clearly asked you to do and leaving the rest in His hands.
Think about what Noah didn’t do. He didn’t spend years debating whether the flood would really happen. He didn’t wait until the animals showed up to prove God was serious. He didn’t demand a sign before he started cutting the first board. He believed God, and that belief turned into action.
That’s the shift this verse invites you into. Turning belief into obedience in the way you actually live. Not just agreeing with God in your mind, but letting that agreement shape your schedule, your decisions, your relationships, and your daily habits.
Maybe God has been asking you to forgive someone, and you’ve been waiting to feel like it first. Maybe He’s been nudging you to start serving in a specific way, but you’ve been holding back because you don’t feel qualified. Maybe He’s been calling you to let go of something that once served you but no longer does, and you’ve been clinging to it out of fear.
Here’s what Genesis 6:20 teaches us: you don’t have to see the whole plan to start obeying. You just have to trust that God will bring what’s needed when it’s needed. Noah built the ark. God brought the animals. Noah’s job was obedience. God’s job was provision.
This doesn’t mean obedience is easy. Noah worked for decades on something he’d never seen and couldn’t fully explain. But his obedience wasn’t rooted in understanding. It was rooted in trust. And when the time came, everything God promised came to pass.
You’re in a growth season right now, and growth often requires you to do things before you feel ready. It requires you to build before you see. It requires you to step forward even when the path isn’t fully lit. Obedience is how belief becomes real. It’s how trust moves from your heart into your hands.
God isn’t asking you to figure out the entire journey. He’s asking you to take the next step. And when you do, He will meet you there. He will bring what needs to come. He will provide what you cannot manufacture on your own. But He’s waiting for you to move.

Identify one thing God has been asking you to do that you’ve been putting off because you don’t see how it will work out. Write it down. Then take one small, concrete step toward obedience today, trusting that God will bring what’s needed when it’s needed.
