Devotional Reflection
The disciples asked a simple question about logistics. They needed to know where to prepare the Passover meal. But this moment carried meaning far deeper than dinner plans.
Passover was never just a meal. It was a memorial, a deliberate act of remembering God’s rescue of Israel from Egypt. Every element of the feast pointed backward to deliverance: the lamb without blemish, the bitter herbs, the unleavened bread baked in haste. For generations, Jewish families gathered to retell the story of God’s faithfulness, to pass down the account of how He heard their cries and brought them out of slavery.
The disciples were preparing for this sacred remembrance, unaware they were standing at the threshold of a new deliverance. Jesus, the Lamb of God, would soon offer Himself as the final Passover sacrifice. What they thought was routine obedience to tradition was actually preparation for the most pivotal moment in history.
You may be in a season of transition right now. Perhaps you’re stepping into something new, or leaving something familiar behind. In these moments, it’s easy to focus only on the logistics: where to go, what to do, how to manage the details. But God invites you to something deeper. He calls you to remember.
Before you move forward, look back. Recall the moments when God delivered you. Remember the times He made a way when there seemed to be none. Think about the seasons when you were certain you couldn’t endure, yet He carried you through. Those weren’t accidents. They were acts of His faithful rescue, and they matter now.
Passover devotion isn’t nostalgia. It’s active remembrance that shapes present obedience. When the Israelites remembered Egypt, they weren’t indulging in the past. They were anchoring their trust in the character of the God who rescues. That same trust prepared them to obey Him in the wilderness, to follow Him into the promised land, to believe He would be faithful again.
The disciples prepared the Passover in obedience, even though they didn’t fully grasp what was coming. Their willingness to follow Jesus’ instructions, to honor the tradition, to make space for sacred remembrance positioned them to witness the greatest act of deliverance the world would ever know.
Your obedience in this new season matters. It may feel small or procedural. You may not see the bigger picture yet. But when you obey God in the transition, when you prepare your heart with remembrance of His past faithfulness, you position yourself to see His deliverance unfold again.
God has not brought you this far to abandon you now. The same hand that rescued you before is leading you still. As you step into this new chapter, carry the memory of His deliverance with you. Let it steady your heart. Let it inform your choices. Let it remind you that the God who was faithful then is faithful now.
