Exodus 12:12
On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord.

Devotional Reflection
The Passover was God’s answer to generations of suffering. His people had cried out under the weight of slavery, and He heard them. But His deliverance required something from them: obedience. They had to mark their doorposts with the blood of a lamb, stay inside their homes, and trust that God would do exactly what He said.
This passover devotion reminds us that God’s rescue often comes with clear instructions. He doesn’t just save us and leave us to figure out the rest. He tells us how to position ourselves for His protection. He asks us to trust Him enough to follow through, even when the night is dark and the outcome is not yet visible.
The Israelites didn’t see the angel pass over. They didn’t witness the judgment falling on Egypt’s gods. They simply obeyed, stayed inside, and waited. By morning, everything had changed. Pharaoh’s grip was broken. The door to freedom swung open. What had seemed permanent was suddenly over.

But God is still the delivering God. He has not forgotten you. He has not left you to fend for yourself.
The Passover also shows us that God’s deliverance involves a clear separation. The Israelites were set apart by the blood on their doorposts. They were marked as God’s people, protected while judgment fell around them. There was no middle ground. You were either under the covering or you were not.
In your life, God may be calling you to step into full obedience, to stop hesitating between two options, to trust Him completely. This is not about earning His favor. It’s about positioning yourself under His protection and aligning your life with His will. When God gives you clear direction, the safest place to be is in obedience.
The Passover was also a foreshadowing of the ultimate rescue that would come through Jesus. Just as the lamb’s blood protected the Israelites, Christ’s blood covers us. Just as God judged the false gods of Egypt, He has defeated every power that seeks to hold us captive. The same God who brought His people out of Egypt brings us out of bondage to sin, fear, and death.
This is not just a memory of what God did once. It’s a reminder of who He still is. He is the Lord who passes through and brings deliverance. He is the God who breaks what cannot be broken by human effort. He is faithful to His promises, and He does not abandon His people in the night.
