Exodus 12:6
Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight.
The Passover was not a hasty afterthought. It was precise, deliberate, deeply intentional. God gave specific instructions about the lamb, the timing, the care required before the night of deliverance arrived. Every detail mattered because this was not just about survival. It was about marking a moment when God would rescue His people and bring them out of bondage into freedom.
This verse sits in the middle of God’s detailed plan for Israel’s rescue from Egypt. The lamb was to be chosen on the tenth day and cared for until the fourteenth. Four days of tending, watching, waiting. Four days of preparation before the act of faith that would change everything.
Quiet Prayer
Lord, thank You for being so intentional in the way You rescue us. You are never rushed, never careless with Your deliverance. Help me to trust the way You prepare me for new chapters, even when the waiting feels long. Teach me to care for what You have given me to steward while I wait for what You are about to do. I trust that Your timing is always purposeful.
Devotional Reflection
There is something deeply human about wanting deliverance to arrive immediately. When we are stuck, struggling, or waiting for God to move, we want relief now. But God rarely works that way. His rescues are deliberate. His transitions are measured. Often, there is a waiting period built into the very design of what He is doing.
In this passover devotion, we see God instructing His people to choose a lamb and then care for it. Not to rush. Not to panic. But to tend, to wait, to prepare. The Israelites were still in Egypt. Pharaoh had not yet relented. The plagues were still unfolding. And yet, God was already at work, setting the stage for what would become the defining moment of Israel’s identity as a delivered people.
That time of tending the lamb was not wasted. It was preparation. It allowed the people to see the cost of what was coming. It gave them time to reflect, to obey, to ready their hearts for what God was about to do. The lamb was not just a symbol. It was a sacred trust. And caring for it was part of the act of faith.
If you are in a season of transition, this verse speaks directly into your waiting. Maybe you have sensed that God is about to do something new. You have received a word, a nudge, a quiet assurance that change is coming. But you are still in the old place. You are still tending what is in front of you while waiting for the door to open.
That time is not limbo. It is preparation. God is asking you to be faithful in the small, quiet obedience of caring for what He has given you now. That might look like finishing well where you are. It might mean staying steady in prayer, in worship, in trust. It might mean taking care of your heart, your relationships, your responsibilities while you wait for the next thing to unfold.
The Israelites could not skip ahead to the deliverance. They had to live through the tension of knowing it was coming but not yet seeing it. And in that space, God taught them obedience. He taught them trust. He taught them that His instructions matter, even when they do not yet see the full picture.
You may not understand why the timing has unfolded the way it has. You may feel ready for the breakthrough, the new chapter, the rescue. But God is still tending something in you. He is still preparing you for what is ahead. And the way you care for what He has given you now will shape the way you step into what He is preparing next.
This is not passive waiting. It is active obedience. It is stewarding the present while trusting God with the future. It is choosing to believe that the God who gave such specific instructions to Israel is still intentional with you. He has not forgotten. He has not delayed carelessly. He is moving with purpose, and your faithfulness in this in-between season matters deeply.

Write down one thing God has given you to steward right now while you wait for the next chapter. Ask Him to help you care for it faithfully, knowing that your obedience in the waiting is part of His preparation for what is coming.
