Exodus 3:12
And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”
Moses stood at the burning bush, overwhelmed by what God was asking him to do. He had spent forty years in the wilderness tending sheep, far from the palace where he once lived. Now God was calling him back to Egypt to confront Pharaoh and lead an entire nation to freedom. The promise God gave him was not a detailed plan or a guarantee of easy success. It was simply this: I will be with you.
Quiet Prayer
Father, when You call me into something new and uncertain, remind me that Your presence is enough. Help me trust that You go before me and remain beside me even when I cannot see the full path. Teach me to take the next step in obedience, knowing that You are faithful to complete what You begin. Let my confidence rest not in my ability, but in Your steady companionship. Amen.
Devotional Reflection
God called Moses into a chapter he did not ask for and was not prepared to handle on his own. Moses had every reason to hesitate. He was not eloquent. He had a complicated past. He doubted whether anyone would listen to him. But God did not promise Moses clarity about every detail. He promised His presence.
That is the assurance God extends to you when He invites you into something unfamiliar. You may not have all the answers. You may feel unqualified or unsure. But if God is calling you forward, He is also promising to go with you. His presence is not passive. It is active, sustaining, and powerful enough to carry you through what feels impossible.
Notice what God offers as a sign. He tells Moses that after the people are brought out of Egypt, they will worship on that very mountain. The confirmation Moses is looking for will not come at the beginning of the journey. It will come after obedience. That can feel backward to us. We want proof before we move. We want assurance before we trust. But God often asks us to step forward in faith first, and the confirmation follows.
This does not mean God leaves you without support. His presence is the foundation. You are not navigating this season alone, figuring it out by trial and error. God is with you in the uncertainty, the waiting, the hard conversations, and the moments when you feel stretched beyond your capacity. He does not send you and then step back. He walks with you.
When you are standing at the edge of a new chapter, it is natural to focus on everything you do not know. You may be looking at a calling that feels too big, a responsibility that seems beyond your ability, or a transition that requires more courage than you think you have. But the question is not whether you are capable. The question is whether God is faithful. And Scripture shows us again and again that He is.
Moses did not have a resume that made sense for the task. He did not have the right words or the right connections. What he had was God’s promise: I will be with you. That was enough to bring a nation out of slavery. That same promise is enough for whatever God is asking of you today.
You do not need to manufacture confidence or pretend you have it all together. You simply need to trust that the One who called you will sustain you. His presence is not contingent on your performance. It is a gift of His faithfulness. When the path feels unclear, when the outcome is uncertain, when you are tempted to turn back because it feels too hard, return to this truth: God is with you.
Today’s Practice
Write down one area where God is calling you forward but you feel uncertain or unqualified. Then write this truth beneath it: God is with me. He does not send me alone. Speak that truth aloud and ask God to help you take the next step in trust.
