Genesis 2:22
Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
This verse arrives at the end of a story we often rush through. Before God brought Eve to Adam, there was waiting. There was divine preparation happening in a process Adam couldn’t see or control. God was already moving, already building, already working toward the very thing Adam needed. None of it was visible yet.
Genesis 2:22 shows us something we easily miss when we skim the creation account. God didn’t speak Eve into existence in an instant. He took time. He formed her carefully. Then, when everything was ready, He brought her to Adam.
The same God who worked behind the scenes in Eden is still working in your life today.
Quiet Prayer
Lord, I confess that waiting feels harder than trusting sometimes. I want to see what You’re doing, but I know You don’t owe me a timeline. Help me believe that You are still moving, still preparing, still working in ways I cannot yet see. Teach me to rest in Your timing instead of straining against it. I trust that when the moment is right, You will bring what You’ve been building into the light.
Devotional Reflection
We live in a world that glorifies speed. We want answers now, breakthroughs today, clarity by tomorrow morning. Waiting feels like wasted time. When we’re waiting on something that matters deeply, whether it’s healing, reconciliation, direction, or provision, the silence can feel unbearable.
But Genesis 2:22 invites us into a different perspective. Adam didn’t know what God was doing while he slept. He had no idea that God was fashioning something beautiful, something perfectly suited to him, something that would complete the story God had started. All Adam knew was that he was alone, and God had said it wasn’t good for him to stay that way.
That’s where trust comes in. Not blind optimism. Not pretending the wait doesn’t hurt. Trust rooted in the character of God, who sees what we need and works according to His wisdom, not our panic.
Think about what God was doing during Adam’s waiting season. He wasn’t ignoring Adam’s loneliness. He wasn’t delaying out of cruelty or indifference. He was creating. He was building. He was preparing something good, and He was doing it with intention and care.
The same is true for you. When you’re in a season where nothing seems to be moving, where prayers feel unanswered and progress feels stalled, God is not absent. He is working in ways you can’t yet see. He is shaping circumstances, preparing hearts, aligning details, building something that will one day make you look back and say, “That’s why it took so long.”
This doesn’t mean the wait is easy. It doesn’t mean you won’t feel the ache of unmet longing or the frustration of unanswered questions. But it does mean you’re not abandoned. You’re not forgotten. The delay is not a denial.
Genesis 2:22 also shows us something else. God didn’t just create Eve and leave her where she was. He brought her to Adam. God completed the work He started. He didn’t begin something good and then walk away from it. He followed through.
That’s the God you’re trusting. The One who finishes what He starts. The One who doesn’t abandon His work halfway through. The One who knows exactly when the time is right to bring things together.
Your job isn’t to figure out the timeline. Your job isn’t to force the door open or manufacture the breakthrough. Your job is to trust the One who holds the timing in His hands and has never once been late.
This is where faith gets practical. Trusting God’s timing doesn’t mean sitting passively and doing nothing. It means continuing to walk faithfully in the season you’re in, even when you can’t see what’s coming next. It means choosing to believe God is good even when the wait feels long. It means refusing to let impatience turn into bitterness or fear.
You may not know what God is building right now. You may not understand why it’s taking so long. But you can trust that He sees the full picture, and He’s working with a purpose you’ll one day recognize.
Today’s Practice
Write down one area where you’re waiting on God right now. Underneath it, write this truth: “God is working even when I cannot see it.” Keep this somewhere visible, and each time doubt creeps in, return to this simple reminder that His timing is still unfolding with purpose.
