Quiet Prayer
God, help Your Word take root deeply within me. When my faith feels dry or growth becomes difficult, keep me close to You. Teach me not to depend only on moments of inspiration, but to remain grounded in Your truth. Give me the steady faith I need to keep growing.
Devotional Reflection
Growth can be visible before it is deep. In Jesus’ parable, the seed on rocky ground actually comes up. For a time, there is something to see. Yet beneath that promising beginning, there is not enough moisture to sustain the plant.
That picture can feel familiar in our spiritual lives. A passage of Scripture may encourage us immediately. A prayer may leave us feeling renewed. We may begin a new season determined to trust God more faithfully. Those beginnings matter, but Jesus reminds us that lasting faith needs more than an initial response.
A plant cannot survive indefinitely on what is visible above the soil. It needs a hidden source of nourishment. In the same way, our relationship with God is strengthened through the quiet practices that may not produce immediate, dramatic results. Returning to Scripture, praying when we do not feel particularly inspired, and continuing to seek God in ordinary days allow faith to develop roots.
There will also be seasons when spiritual growth feels less obvious. You may not feel the same excitement you once did. A difficult circumstance may leave you wondering whether anything is changing. That does not mean growth has stopped. It may be an invitation to move beyond what is immediate and develop a deeper dependence on God.
Luke 8:6 encourages us to consider what is sustaining our faith beneath the surface. God’s Word is not meant merely to inspire us for a moment. It is meant to remain with us, nourish us, and shape the way we live long after the first moment of encouragement has passed.

Return to one passage of Scripture that has encouraged you recently. Read it slowly again today, and spend a few quiet minutes allowing its truth to settle more deeply into your heart.
