It could be a belief about yourself or your future that no longer holds up under the weight of new circumstances. These moments are not accidents. They are not signs that God has abandoned you. They are signs that He is present and at work.
Think of wax near a flame. It does not resist. It simply melts. There is no struggle, only transformation. Water rushing down a slope does not fight gravity. It follows the path that has been opened. This is the posture God invites you into during pruning seasons. Not passivity, but willing surrender.
You may feel the loss of what once felt certain. That grief is real, and God does not dismiss it. But He also does not leave you there. What melts away is not who you are. It is what was covering who you were meant to become. What splits open is not your foundation. It is the false ground you were standing on so that you can be planted somewhere deeper.
Pruning seasons require trust because they often do not make sense in the moment. You cannot see what God is building while He is removing what does not belong. But you can trust His character. He does not tear down for the sake of destruction. He clears away so that something truer, stronger, and more rooted in Him can grow.
This is not easy. It is not painless. But it is good. And it is purposeful.
When God melts what felt permanent, He is teaching you that He alone is your stability. When He splits open what seemed secure, He is showing you that your foundation must be Him, not your circumstances. This is what it means to trust Him in a pruning season. Not to pretend it does not hurt, but to believe that He knows what He is doing even when you do not.

Sit quietly and ask God to show you one thing you have been holding onto for security that He wants you to release. Do not rush past the discomfort. Stay in the question long enough to hear His voice. Then write down what He brings to mind and tell Him honestly that you are willing to trust Him with it, even if it feels uncertain right now.
