Psalm 143:8
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.
Some decisions cannot wait until we feel ready. Some mornings arrive heavy with what we don’t yet know. David wrote this psalm from a place of distress, pursued by enemies, his spirit faint. He had no clarity about what would come next. But he knew where to begin.
He asked for direction in the morning. Not after gathering more information. Not after he felt confident. In the morning, when the path was still uncertain and the day stretched ahead undefined.

Father, I bring this morning to You before I know what it holds. Let me hear Your unfailing love before the noise begins. Show me the way I should go, even if I can only see one step ahead. I trust You with what I do not yet understand. Amen.
Devotional Reflection
The timing in this verse matters. David did not wait until evening to pray for clarity. He did not ask God to sort things out while he kept moving forward on his own. He began his day by turning toward God, asking for both assurance and direction.
Morning is when we are most tempted to rush. The day’s demands pile up quickly. We feel pressure to move, decide, produce. But David modeled something different. He paused at the threshold of the unknown and said, “Before I take a step, I need to hear from You.”
That is not passivity. It is trust.
When we seek God early, we acknowledge that we do not have the full picture. We do not know which decision will open the right door or which conversation will shift everything. We are finite, limited by what we can see and control. But God is not.
David’s request was twofold. First, he asked to hear of God’s unfailing love. This was not sentimentality. It was grounding. Before asking for direction, David needed to remember who God is. He needed the reminder that God’s character does not change based on circumstances. His love is steady, faithful, unshaken by our confusion.
When you do not know what comes next, it helps to start with what you do know. God loves you. That love is not conditional on your clarity or your ability to figure things out. It does not waver when you feel lost. Hearing that truth first reorients everything.
Then David asked to be shown the way. Not every way. Not a detailed map. Just the way he should go. One clear next step in the middle of uncertainty.
We often want more than that. We want the full plan, the guaranteed outcome, the assurance that we will not make a mistake. But God rarely gives us the entire roadmap at once. He gives us enough light for the next step. And He asks us to trust Him with what lies beyond it.
That is what David did. He entrusted his life to God. Not just his schedule or his next decision, but his whole life. He knew that the direction he needed would come from the One who already saw the full path. He did not have to carry that burden himself.
Think about the difference it makes when you seek God before the day takes over. Before the urgency sets in. Before you start running through your options in your head, weighing pros and cons, trying to force clarity through sheer mental effort.
You bring the question to God first. You ask Him to speak into the uncertainty. You let His presence settle your spirit before you move.
This is not about hearing an audible voice or receiving a dramatic sign. It is about positioning your heart to listen. It is about choosing dependence over self-reliance. It is about starting the day tethered to the truth that God is faithful, and He will guide you.
David was a king. He had advisors, armies, resources. But he knew better than to rely solely on what he could see or arrange. He needed God’s direction, and he needed it early.
You may not be facing enemies or running for your life. But you may be standing at a crossroads. You may have a decision pressing in on you that feels too important to get wrong. You may be wondering if you should wait or move, speak or stay silent, hold on or let go.
Bring it to God in the morning. Before the static of the day drowns out the still, small voice. Before anxiety fills the space where peace could settle. Before you convince yourself that you have to have it all figured out on your own.
God’s unfailing love meets you in that place of not knowing. His guidance is available to those who ask. And the morning is when you position yourself to receive it.

Before you move into the tasks of your day, spend a few quiet moments asking God to show you the way you should go. Write down one specific area where you need direction, and entrust it to Him, remembering His unfailing love is with you in the uncertainty.
