Romans 6:4

Verse of the Day

Romans 6:4

“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Quiet Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You that my old life is not the end of my story. Thank You that in You, even what feels dead can be raised. I bring to You the parts of my heart that feel tired, ashamed, or stuck, and I quietly place them in Your hands. Teach me to walk in the new life You have already given me, resting in Your gentle leading.

Devotional Reflection

Paul’s words are tender and strong at the same time. You are not simply trying harder to be a better person. In Christ, something far deeper has taken place.

Baptism is a picture of burial and resurrection. Going under the water is like saying, “My old self, with its guilt and striving, has been laid down with Jesus in His death.” Coming up again is a sign that you share in His risen life.

Think of a winter garden. For a long time, the ground looks lifeless. Yet beneath the surface, something is quietly happening. At the right time, green shoots press through, not because they tried harder, but because new life was already at work.

Your life in Christ is like that. Even when you cannot see much change, the risen Christ is at work in you. You are not asked to resurrect yourself. You are invited to trust that you have been joined to the One whom the Father raised through His glory.

To “live a new life” is not about constant performance. It is a daily, sometimes very ordinary, walking with Jesus, letting His life, not your past, define you.

Quick Next Step

Take five quiet minutes to write down one area where you feel stuck in your “old” life, then gently tell Jesus about it and ask Him to grow His new life there.
